The role

The role

As the Market intelligence lead at Watershed, you will be a key strategic player in our mission to accelerate the world's transition to a sustainable future. This role sits at the intersection of market research, competitive analysis, and industry expertise, requiring a deep understanding of the rapidly evolving sustainability and ESG software landscape.

You will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and disseminating critical market intelligence that will shape Watershed's product development, go-to-market strategies, and overall business direction. Your insights will be instrumental in positioning Watershed as a leader in the enterprise sustainability platform space.

Key aspects of the role include:

  1. Market Expert: Become the company's foremost authority on sustainability software trends, buyer behaviors, and competitive dynamics. Stay ahead of market shifts and emerging technologies that could impact our business.
  2. Competitive Intelligence: Lead efforts to understand our competitors' strategies and product capabilities. Develop and maintain a comprehensive competitive intelligence program for the company.
  3. Analyst Relations: Build and nurture relationships with key industry analysts and research firms. Manage Watershed's presence in analyst reports and ensure our value proposition is accurately represented.
  4. Strategic Insights: Translate complex market data into actionable insights that drive product innovation, marketing strategies, and sales enablement.
  5. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, marketing, sales, and executive teams to ensure market intelligence informs decision-making across the organization.
  6. Thought Leadership: Contribute to Watershed's position as a thought leader in the sustainability space by producing market-focused content and participating in industry events.

This role is ideal for a strategic thinker who is passionate about sustainability and thrives on turning data into impactful business strategies. You do not need to be deeply knowledgeable on the sustainability industry space to apply. Experience with analyst relations or competitive intelligence is the priority. Any experience in or knowledge of the sustainability space is certainly a plus, however.

We are hiring predominately out of our offices in either New York, London or San Francisco, but are open to remote candidates in U.S. timezones for the right candidate.

You will:

  • Competitive intelligence: Set up a program for staying informed on changes to the competitive landscape, automating where possible and synthesizing takeaways that alter or amplify Watershed’s positioning in the market.
  • Market intelligence: Monitor and report on industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies. Pull groups of customers or prospects for periodic message testing and feedback
  • Analyst relations: Develop and maintain relationships with industry analysts and research firms. Touch points will include leading regular briefings, contributing to analyst reports and tapping analyst expertise to inform our product or go-to-market strategy.
  • Internal leadership: Present findings to product, sales, marketing and leadership to guide decision-making.

You might be a fit if you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in market research, competitive intelligence, or related field
  • Excellent research and communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights
  • Knowledge of sustainability and ESG landscape is a plus, but not a requirement

At Watershed, we strive to design consistent, fair, and competitive compensation programs. The total cash compensation range may be inclusive of several levels at Watershed and final offer will be determined by a number of factors, including the candidate’s skills, capabilities, and location, as well as scope of the role.

The anticipated cash compensation range is in addition to a total rewards benefit package including equity, health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), unlimited paid time off, paid parental leave, fertility, and mental health programs etc.

FAQ

Where does Watershed work?

We have hub offices in San Francisco, New York and London, and some remote team members in the US and EU. Most of our jobs need to be in San Francisco / New York / London, but certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description.

What’s the interview process like?

It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience screen (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel after that if the screens go well. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.
